Cat eating canary?

Everyone knows these are hard times for the Strip’s gambling gurus. That’s what made Steve Wynn’s remark about the business climate in Macau so intriguing.

In an Associated Press story, Wynn said he backed Chinese government measures to curb gambling visits to Macau from the mainland during the financial crisis.

Now that’s confidence – and perhaps a thinly veiled reference to a certain competitor who seems to have forgotten the business adage: “Bulls make money, bears make money. Hogs get slaughtered.”

Wynn’s remark comes following an announcement by the Chinese government that it would seize any casinos in Macau forced to declare bankruptcy.
