REGISTRATION SET FOR SUMMER CAMPS

The city of Las Vegas invites parents to enroll children in summer day camp programs at six area community centers.

n Open registration for ages 6 to 11 is set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road. Online and telephone registration will be unavailable. Registration closes when the programs are full.

Camp is scheduled for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday beginning June 10. There will be no camp July 4. Camp at the Cimarron Rose Community Center ends Aug. 23.

The price is $75 per child for the week and $70 for additional children in the family.

The camp will promote fun, fitness, adventure and education in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Age-appropriate activities, including field trips, sports, special events, physical fitness and games, arts and crafts and nutrition training are planned under the supervision of trained staff members.

n A separate Lorenzi Adaptive summer program for youths 7 to 22 with disabilities is slated to be offered from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 10-Aug. 16, only at the East Las Vegas Community Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Participants will enjoy a new recreation experience every week, community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies. The cost is $75 per child for the week and $70 for each additional child in the family. Registration is set to open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. SEMINAR TO HIGHLIGHT ARTHRITIS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES

A free seminar featuring arthritis experts is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Centennial Hills Active Adult Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

Participants can learn about current scientific evidence and management strategies in the treatment and care of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

GARDENING CLASSES PLANNED

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Helen Brown is slated to present two gardening classes this month.

n Growing Cucumbers and Squash is planned for 9 a.m. April 20 at the Master Gardener Orchard, 4600 Horse Road, North Las Vegas. A $5 donation is requested.

n Planting Vine Crops is set for 10 a.m. April 23 at the Family Resource Center at University Medical Center, 1120 Shadow Lane.

Both classes are open to the public. Participants must preregister by contacting Amy Runge at 702-383-2229.

SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN OPEN SEEKS TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEERS

Registration is open to volunteer for the 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament, scheduled for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Circle Drive.

Volunteer opportunities include admissions, standard bearers, caddie services, walking scorers and more.

Interested participants can take advantage of a $55 registration fee until May 1, when fees will increase by $5.
