Red Rock commission meeting planned to address request for waivers
Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager has scheduled a community meeting to discuss the waivers that developer Jim Rhodes has requested for his planned development in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday in Blue Diamond's community center, 9 Village Way.

SIGN-UPS start for city of Las Vegas'
CITIZENS ACADEMY OF PLANNING
The deadline is Wednesday to sign up for the city of Las Vegas' second annual Citizens Academy of Planning, a free educational program designed to give community members an overview of the planning and zoning process.
Classes are taught by professionals from the city of Las Vegas Department of Planning or other selected experts who have hands-on experience in their respective topic areas.
The academy is slated to begin Jan. 25. The 10-week program will include weekly workshops on a variety of topics, including the history of planning, the permit process, historic preservation and more.
The 90-minute classes, consisting of a one-hour presentation and a 30-minute discussion, are set for 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Development Services Center, 333 N. Rancho Drive.
The program will conclude with graduation March 28. Participants are asked to attend each session in order to enter the alumni class.

OPEN A BUSINESS in las vegas

People interested in opening a business in the city of Las Vegas can do so by visiting the city's website, lasvegasnevada.gov.
The city of Las Vegas is the first government agency in Southern Nevada to offer customers the ability to apply for a business license online.
Customers also can pay their application fee or renew their current business license online.
The new features are part of the city's priority to make it easier to do business with the city of Las Vegas.
WALMART SHARES THE WEALTH
Walmart has given $100,000 to the Shade Tree shelter as part of its Associate Choice Award.
The Walmart Foundation funds initiatives focused on education, workforce development, economic opportunity, environmental sustainability and health and wellness.
From Feb. 1, 2009, through Jan. 31, 2010, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation gave more than $512 million in cash and in-kind gifts globally, $467 million of which was donated in the U.S.
