WINTER BREAK CAMPS FOR KIDS
ACCEPTING REGISTRATION

Registration begins Nov. 28 for winter break kids camps scheduled in December at the Cimarron Rose Community Center, 5591 N. Cimarron Road.

Campers ages 6-15 participate in age-appropriate activities, such as games, arts and crafts, music and fitness activities. Children are to bring their own lunch and two snacks each day.

Camp is set for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 19-23 and Dec. 27-30. There is no camp Dec. 26.

The cost is $75 for the first child and $70 for each additional child per week.

PAIUTE TRIBE SIGNS PACT
WITH ELECTRICAL COMPANY

The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe formally signed a right-of-way agreement with the Pahrump-based Valley Electric Association Oct. 27 to improve electrical reliability through the business' service area and to accommodate the needs of solar electricity projects north of Clark County.

The agreement signing took place at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort, 10325 Nu-Wav Kaiv Blvd., between Tonia Means, chairwoman of the Paiute Tribe, and Thomas Husted, CEO of Valley Electric Association, marking the efforts for the company and the tribe to share economic benefits and an attempt to construct transmission facilities on Indian lands.

VOLUNTEERS SOUGHT TO HELP
WITH FREE TAX-PREPARATION EVENT

Volunteers are needed in January to assist Las Vegas City Councilman Steve Ross, Ward 6, with a free tax form preparation program for middle- to low-income residents at the Centennial Hills Community Center, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive.

The IRS will offer training in December to volunteers helping with the program. Ross asks for 24 volunteer hours over a two-month period.

The tax preparation services will be offered during the week in the late afternoon to early evening. Prospective volunteers must U.S. citizens or legal residents.

ACT PRACTICE TEST PLANNED

A Princeton Review-sponsored ACT practice test is scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Centennial Hills Library, 6711 N. Buffalo Drive.

The test is free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY OPEN HOUSE TO ADDRESS
RED ROCK CANYON CONSTRUCTION

The Bureau of Land Management's Red Rock/Sloan Field Office plans to host an open house from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, with short overview presentations planned for 2 and 6 p.m., at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center.

The public can participate in an environmental assessment that analyzes the construction of Zone 2 of the State Route 159 Multi-Use Trail within Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

Zone 2 starts at the Scenic Loop Drive and visitor entrance road and parallels state Route 159 until it connects to the Scenic Loop Drive exit parking lot.

At the Scenic Loop Drive fee booth, tell the attendant you are attending the public meeting, and you will not be required to pay to enter.

BLM TO WAIVE recreation FEES
FOR VETERANS DAY WEEKEND

The Bureau of Land Management, in conjunction with other agencies within the U.S. Department of the Interior, plans to waive recreation-related fees for visitors to the National System of Public Lands for Veterans Day weekend, Friday through Sunday.

These fee-free days also apply to areas managed within the BLM's National Landscape Conservation System. Site-standard amenity and individual day-use fees at BLM recreation sites and areas will be waived. Other fees, such as overnight camping, cabin rentals, and group day use, will remain in effect.
