Cheong leading on first break, 23 players remain

On the first break in the World Series of Poker’s Main Event Saturday at the Rio, the field has been reduced to 23 after two hours of play.

Twenty-seven players began the day and were seeking a seat at the final table of nine in the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em World Championship event.

Ronnie Bardah of Stoneham, Mass., was eliminated in 24th place when his king-ace of diamonds couldn’t match pocket aces from Filippo Candio of Italy. He collected $317,161.

Joseph Cheong of La Mirada, Calif., continues to be the chip leader with 24.4 million in tournament chips.
