As we know, St. Mark of Missouri breathed his last on April 21, 1910. Las Vegas was barely a tent city at that time.
But he did have a view on the nature of Las Vegas – at least as it’s perceived in the eyes of some decent folk, puritanical types, and popular critics.
Twain wrote in his story, “The Lowest Animal,” that “Indecency, vulgarity, obscenity–these are strictly confined to man; he invented them. Among the higher animals there is no trace of them."
It’s something to think about whether you’re a Vegas party animal or just a working stiff trying to make ends meet on your wages and tips.
