Clausen may start Saturday after making switch to safety

Mike Clausen made enough of an impression at safety that he might start there when UNLV plays New Mexico at 7 p.m. Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Clausen or Travis Dixon — another converted quarterback — will start the game. Rebels coach Bobby Hauck switched Clausen to safety just last week, and he played in Saturday's 30-7 loss at Idaho.

"(The) game experience that he got on Saturday is invaluable," Hauck said. "My comment to our defensive staff yesterday was I wish he had not played as well as he did at quarterback during camp so we could've made that move in August."
