Couple accused of killing baby, leaving him to decompose

A man and a woman were extradited from South Carolina to Florida to face child neglect and murder charges after their 2-month-old son went missing in September, WTSP-TV reported.

On Tuesday, 36-year-old Joseph Walsh was transported from the Jasper County Detention Center to the Sarasota, Fla., jail on charges of first-degree muder and child neglect. He was being held on $150,000 bond.

Last week, Kristen Bury, 32, was also extradited, and faces the same charges.

According to Walsh's arrest report, he and Bury told detectives that Chance died on the morning of Sept. 16 at the couple's home on Orduna Drive in North Port, Fla.

Bury said she and Walsh got into an argument that morning and that Walsh hit the baby repeatedly. At one point, Walsh said he was "going to break his f---ing neck" and bashed Chance's head into the ground.

When asked why neither of them called police or took the infant to get medical treatment, Bury said she did not want to call 911 because she did not want to lose both people she loves in one day, the television station reported.

After Chance died, he was put in his crib, where his body was left to decompose. The odor from the body began to become so strong, the couple decided to remove it.

Walsh then wrapped Chance in numerous garbage bags and put his decomposing remains in the bedroom closet.

On Sept. 24, before sunrise, the couple drove to Elliot Court in North Port, dug a shallow grave and returned home, WTSP said. They then put Chance's body in the car and buried his body.

On Sept. 27, the couple headed north without Chance and got into a crash in Hardeeville, South Carolina. When asked why they left Florida, Walsh said they were going to start a new life somewhere else.

On Oct. 15, Bury told detectives where Chance's body was buried.
