Deadly albino cobra finally caught in SoCal
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — A deadly albino cobra that ran loose for days in a Southern California neighborhood has been captured.
TV reports showed Los Angeles County animal control officers using metal hooks or tongs to grab the monocled cobra from a pile of scrap lumber in a Thousand Oaks backyard shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.
County spokesman Brandon Dowling confirms the capture.
The cobra’s venom can kill in an hour. It had been on the loose since at least Monday evening, when it reportedly bit a dog. The animal is expected to make a full recovery.
Dowling says authorities are glad no people were bitten. Neighbors had been told to watch their children and keep pets indoors while the hunt was on.
The cobra is generally illegal in California. Authorities haven’t found the owner.
