Dining Guide

4130 S. Sandhill Road at East Flamingo Road, 434-3043

Mediterranean cuisine is influenced by countries that border the Mediterranean Sea, such as Greece, Italy, Spain and even North Africa. Filfila is a mountain range in Algeria; thus, this restaurant has a North African influence. Among the sandwiches are falafel with pita bread, falafel (balls of ground chickpeas or fava beans), tomatoes, lettuce and dressing. The gyro can be made with chicken, beef or lamb. Other sandwiches are beef or lamb shish kabob, chicken, beef or lamb shawarma (meat cooked with onions and tomatoes) and kofta (grilled ground beef). Larger meals, called plates, include rice, grape leaves, salad, hummus and pita. Just about all sandwiches can be made into plates. A Fool Plate is fava beans with olive oil, lime, mint, onion and pita. Popular salads are tabouleh (parsley, mint, tomatoes, green onions, lemon, bulgar wheat, salt, olive oil), Greek and Middle Eastern. Sides include baba ganoush (mashed eggplant with lemon juice, garlic, olive oil), hummus and grape leaves. Desserts include baklava and basbousa. Sandwiches begin at $2.95 and plates at $5.95. Filfila Mediterranean Cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. — Jack Bulavsky

You may have thought you left Blockbuster behind, but the basic way we browse movies hasn’t changed all that much. We peruse poster after poster, kind of like walking the aisles of a ‘90s-era video store. That one poster image, meant to appeal to as many people as possible, is often all we see before […]
