Dining pick of the week: Hogs Heaven Barbeque

PICK OF THE WEEK:

HOGS HEAVEN BARBEQUE

6584 N. Decatur Blvd., 395-4647

If hogs go to heaven (and why shouldn't they?), this is where they go. Baby back ribs are slowly smoked for a minimum six hours over aged mesquite wood, while seasoned pulled pork sandwiches are topped with creamy coleslaw. If I were a hog, this is where I would want to go. The menu at Hogs Heaven is small, and that's good since everything is homemade. Back to those ribs. They can be ordered as a one-third rack, half rack or full rack. Another tasty sandwich is the hot link topped with barbecue sauce, grilled onions and smoked cheddar. Popular sides are potato salad, coleslaw, corn on the cob, barbecue skillet beans and macaroni and cheese. Buffalo or barbecue wings are served with Hog fries and the famous Hog sauce. Two desserts are Bourbon Street peach cobbler and sweet potato pie. And remember, everything is homemade, so you know these desserts are delicious. Piglett (kids) meals include barbecue pork sandwich, mini barbecue corn dogs and animal-shaped chicken fingers served with Tator Tots and a drink. A one-third rack of ribs begins at $10.99, and sandwiches start at $6.99. Hogs Heaven is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. -- Jack Bulavsky
