Dining pick of the week: Old School Pizzeria

PICK OF THE WEEK:

OLD SCHOOL PIZZERIA

2040 E. Craig Road at Lawrence Street, 990-0070

Hand-tossed Neapolitan pizzas and old-school roasted chicken have created a buzz for this newly opened restaurant. The small pizza is called the Big 14, followed by the Extra Big 18 and finally the OMG 24. You better have an appetite when you arrive. Besides all the traditional pizza toppings, a few unusual ones are green Sicilian olives, roasted garlic cloves, Calabrese pepperoni, applewood-smoked bacon, sliced roast beef, oil-cured black olives and hard-boiled eggs. The five-cheese pie is made with mozzarella, Parmesan, ricotta, provolone and scamorza. The Classic has sausage, pepperoni, onion, bell peppers, mushrooms and olives. The antipasto salad, with homemade Italian dressing, has salame, provolone, ham, onion, black olives, tomatoes and peperoncini. Several pasta dishes are chicken manicotti, five cheese baked macaroni and Nonna's baked ziti. Popular paninis are beef and grilled onions, meatball, pulled pork with broccoli raab, chicken pesto, eggplant Parmigiana and Muffoleta, a combination of mortadella, salami, provolone and giardiniera. Several desserts are cannoli, tiramisu and gelato. Pizzas begin at $8.45, and paninis are $6.50. Old School Pizzeria is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. -- Jack Bulavsky
