PICK OF THE WEEK:
THE TACO SPOT
5590 Painted Mirage Road
at West Ann Road, 778-9777
There's no question what you're going to order when you stop here. Tacos are served on soft yellow corn tortillas and can be garnished to your preference at the salsa bar. Selections include chicken tinga, which is braised, all-white chicken in a chipotle tomato sauce. There also is steak, barbacoa (shredded beef braised in a mix of spices), carnitas, al pastor (pork, steak and bacon with onions and pineapple), chorizo (Mexican sausage) and vegetarian. There are breakfast tacos that come with egg, hash browns and cheese. Other menu items include tostadas, quesadillas, burritos, tortas made with soft Mexican telera bread and costra, the house signature dish made by grilling cheese and topping it with meat or veggies and capping it with a corn tortilla. Baja fish tacos are made with cod, homemade tartar spread, tangy mango salsa and cabbage. The Sonora hot dog is an all-beef hot dog wrapped in bacon with tomatoes, cheese, grilled onions, sour cream and mushrooms. Dessert is caramel or chocolate flan and the restaurant's signature ice cream jello. Tacos start at $1.99. The Taco Spot is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
