Dining Pick of the Week: Tommy’s Original Hamburgers

Tommy’s Original Hamburgers

7070 W. Craig Road at U.S. Highway 95, 702-207-6361

Tommy Koulax hit a homerun with his 100 percent all-beef hamburger and then hit another one when he introduced his famous chili. Tommy’s standard hamburger is a chiliburger, but that hamburger can be prepared any way you like by adding double-thick slices of cheese, chopped onions, beefsteak tomatoes, pickles and mustard. However, the chiliburger is what made Tommy famous, and you have to try it just once. The cascabella peppers (yellow pickled chili peppers) are an added treat. The limited but always fresh menu features hamburgers, such as the Double or Triple hamburger or cheeseburger, hamburger with thousand island dressing and the Caliente Burger. Ask about the quarter-pound hamburger and various combos that include fries. Other selections are chili hot dog, chili tamale, chili boat, (cheese, onions, pickles, tomato) and veggie or cheese sandwich. There are various fries (french, cheese, chili and chili cheese), milkshakes (chocolate, strawberry, vanilla) and Famous Amos cookies. Breakfast is served until 11 a.m. with sausage and egg sandwiches (with or without cheese), breakfast burrito, and eggs and hash browns. Chili can be ordered to go in 8-, 12- or 32-ounce containers. Hamburgers begin at $2.30. Tommy’s Original is open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily.
