Dining Pick of the Week: Wine 5 Cafe

PICK OF THE WEEK:

WINE 5 CAFE

3250 N. Tenaya Way at West Cheyenne Avenue, 462-9463

Las Vegas is known for international cuisines, and you can add Kenyan to that list. Michael Njoroge is serving American/Kenyan dishes such as Nairobi City Park Tacos with cabbage, kachumbari salsa, cilantro and avocado sauce. Other dishes include seared salmon with lemon zest butter, mixed grill, blackened tuna, Taste of Nairobi (a mild chicken curry that is his grandmother's recipe) and nayama and ugali, braised barbecue beef, white polenta, spinach stew and sweet potato logs. Breakfast is served from 9 a.m. to noon weekends and features the Nairobi Breakfast Platter with roasted corn, beans and fried eggs accompanied by mandazi (a type of beignet), along with omelets, P&J French toast and a breakfast burrito with eggs, cheese, potatoes, beans, corn and salsa. Among the sandwiches are Mr. and Mrs. Ruben (salmon, beef or tuna on marble rye), Tenaya Club, Southwest chicken with black beans, corn and jicama in cilantro-lime dressing and Nairobi Hoagie (fried tilapia, lettuce, tomatoes, basil remoulade). There are appetizers, "bombastic" desserts, South African wines and large salads. Ask about the lunch specials. Entrees begin at $12.25 and sandwiches at $7.50. Wine 5 Cafe is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. - Jack Bulavsky
