Firefighter selfie creates outpouring of support
A selfie from a San Marcos, Calif., firefighter to let his wife and kids know he was OK has turned into an outpouring of support for the work firefighters do.
The photo was posted to the Facebook page of Plan 9 Alehouse restaurant with the caption ‘Thank You!!!’ by the owners of the restaurant, who are family friends of the firefighter, Tim Bergon, and his wife.
“We were kind of shocked at how people responded, honestly. But I guess it just really shows you how much that meant to everybody because of what they did,” one of the restaurant owners, Monica Calles, told CBS8 News about how quickly the photo blew up on social media. “It touched us, so we passed it on.”
The photo, which has gotten nearly 35,000 likes, shows Bergon and a handful of other firefighters resting while fighting the San Diego fires.
The comment thread of the photo includes thousands of thank yous from people.
“Thank you and all the firefighters and emergency folks fighting those fires to keep everyone safe. God Bless!!!” one commenter said.
