Fla. woman who live streamed herself driving drunk avoids jail time

A Florida woman who was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after she live streamed herself on Periscope while driving drunk last October has accepted a plea deal to avoid jail time.

According to KLFY-TV, Whitney Beall, 23, used the app Periscope to live stream a night of partying. During the broadcast, viewers watched as Beall got behind the wheel after she admittedly drank too much.

“I am drunk on South Florida Avenue because I’m a drunk person,” Beall said on Periscope.

Referencing how many viewers were watching the live stream of her driving drunk, Beall said, "Fifty-seven people, oh I didn’t know I’d get this many people. I am super drunk in the USA and the light is red."

After two of Beall's Periscope viewers called 911 to report her, Lakeland Police were able to locate her relatively quickly.

“Within minutes we found her driving, flat front tire, she hit the curb again and it was just obvious from that she was intoxicated,” Lakeland Police Department Sgt. Gary Gross said.

As KLFY-TV reports, Beall pleaded no contest to a charge of driving under the influence and agreed to the following sentence in her plea deal:

  • 12 months probation DUI 1st time offense
  • 10 days weekend work release
  • 150 hours of community service
  • Alcohol evaluation and treatment
  • May not visit any bars
  • Must attend MADD Impact Panel
  • 10-day vehicle impound
  • 6 months drivers license suspension
