Fonfa new head of Miss Nevada Organization

The Miss America Organization has started the New Year by cleaning up a mess.

Las Vegan Jodi Fonfa has replaced Amy Hacker of Las Vegas as executive director of the Miss Nevada Organization.

The move comes months after the national organization acknowledged “scoring irregularities” in the June 1 Miss Nevada Outstanding Teen pageant.

After Amy Smith was crowned Miss Nevada’s Outstanding Teen, parents of other contestants challenged the results and pushed for an audit. As a result, Haleyann Hart of Henderson was named the winner.

However, the pageant’s national board determined Smith and Hart would be named co-winners and each could compete in the Aug. 2 national competition in Orlando.

Hart did not compete. Smith, 15, went on to won two awards: Best platform for her community service program titled “Amy’s Ambition Empowering Youth Through Service” and Miss Congeniality.

Fonfa’s board members will be Sandy Colon-Pelton, Larry Smith, Leora Blau, Lisa Burkhead, Councilman Bob Beers, Ardi Najmabadi, Dawn Hume, Vanessa Chamberlin Houssels, Michael Shulman, Dana Martin, Audra Baldwin, Jeanne Wilkins, Judy Stone and Dale Wynn.
