For Angle supporter, his T-shirt says it all: “I’m sorry! I voted for Harry Reid.”

Hall Easterling wants the world to know -- at least the T-shirt reading world -- that's he's sorry he once voted for U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.

"I apologize! I voted for Harry Reid. I'm sorry!" says the back of his shirt.

And on the front: "I'm sorry! I voted for Harry Reid. Please forgive me."

Now, Easterling and his wife, Ruthie, are among the new volunteers for Republican Sharron Angle's campaign against the Democratic incumbent.

The Las Vegas couple joined dozens of volunteers on Monday at Angle's Southern Nevada headquarters to listen to a pep talk from the candidate, who hosted a hot dog lunch for them.

"They see me, but it's you guys that are doing the work," Angle said, thanking the volunteers for answering phones, knocking on doors and spreading the word for her campaign.

A registered non-partisan, Hall Easterling said he voted for Reid the last time he ran for re-election in 2004.

But in the past two years, Easterling said he and his wife became disenchanted as Reid pushed for passage of President Barack Obama's health care law and the $787 billion stimulus bill.

Easterling said he remembers being skeptical that the federal spending plan would work to turn around the economy when Obama made a major February 2009 speech at a town hall in Elkhart, Indiana, where Easterling taught history for 35 years before moving to Nevada a decade ago.

"The stimulus package hasn't helped," Easterling said, noting that the national and Nevada unemployment rates have continued to climb along with home foreclosures. "Somebody's got to do something to face these issues. And I think Sharron isn't afraid to face these issues."

Reid and the Obama administration argue the Democrats inherited the bad economy from GOP President George W. Bush and things would be even worse if not for the stimulus.

Ruthie Easterling, who hasn't backed Reid before, rejects those arguments. She says of her husband's past support for Reid, "He got talked into it once and won't again."

Hall Easterling began wearing his homemade anti-Reid T-shirt three weeks ago. His wife said he's been getting mostly compliments.

"I suppose people who like Reid aren't going to say anything, but when he's walking down the street people are approaching him to say OK, they agree," she said.
