Free events at pools, parks planned on Fourth of July

Aside from larger July 4 celebrations planned in various parts of town, a few other events also are planned to help residents enjoy the holiday.

View file photoFree events are set at 10 Clark County pools, water parks and skate parks. Free swimming is set for noon to 6 p.m. County water parks feature twisting slides, fountains, play areas and shallow pools for young swimmers.

Hollywood Skate Park, an admission-based county park near Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, is set to be open for free from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and requires signed waivers by a parent or guardian for entry. Skate parks at other recreation and community centers also will be in operation during that time.

Spring Mountain Road, 455-7798, option 2; Paradise Water Park, 4775 McLeod Drive, 455-8541; Parkdale Water Park, 3200 Ferndale St., 455-7523; Sunrise Pool, 2240 Linn Lane, 455-7610; Walnut Water Park, 3075 Walnut Ave., 455-8422; and Whitney Pool, 5700 E. Military: fire for free at shooting park
All active-duty, reservist, National Guard and retired military members are being offered a free round of trap or skeet shooting or a pass for the rifle-pistol center and archery ranges at the Clark County Shooting Park, 11357 N. Decatur Blvd. Participants must present a valid military ID and provide their own firearms and ammunition.

The park will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and the park’s Guns-N-Grub Café is set to be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The park features archery, rifle and pistol ranges, 24 combination trap and skeet fields, a hunter education center and simulated hunting course, a shotgun center, pro shops, classrooms, a cafeteria and parking spaces for recreational vehicles. Free access to Floyd Lamb for military
All active-duty, reservist and retired military members and their families are welcome to enjoy Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, 9200 Tule Springs Road, for free, courtesy of city of Las Vegas Councilman Steve Ross of Ward 6. Free admission is available all day with presentation of a military ID. The park is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
