Friendly Ford to host rescue event

Friendly Ford at 660 N. Decatur Blvd. is going to the dogs. German shepherds, to be precise.

The dealership is set to host a pet adoption event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with Vegas Shepherd Rescue, the only German shepherd rescue organization in Las Vegas. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided, and prospective pet owners will have a chance to meet some canines in search of forever homes.

The rescue group has touched many Las Vegans during the years, including magician and entertainer Criss Angel, who has adopted two dogs from Vegas Shepherd Rescue. Angel brings one of the dogs, Oso, on stage with him at “Believe,” his show at the Luxor, encouraging people to adopt, not shop.

One dog, a shepherd/chow mix named Gia, has the rescue organization particularly concerned. She needs complicated and expensive surgery and the organization is asking for the public to donate what it can to help Gia recover. Tax-deductible donations can be made online or at Saturday’s Friendly Ford event.

“It breaks my heart to think of what would happen to these beautiful dogs if it weren’t for the wonderful folks over at Vegas Shepherd Rescue,” said Jason Davis, Friendly Ford general manager. “In hosting this event, we hope to match every available dog with a loving new home.”

All dogs are spayed or neutered and have up-to-date vaccinations.

Vegas Shepherd Rescue is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing lost, unwanted and homeless German shepherds with needed medical treatments, training and a loving environment while they rest, recuperate and are rehabilitated to a point where they can be placed in qualified, forever homes. They can be reached at 702-706-7437 or online at www.vegasshepherdrescue.com.

Friendly Ford has served Las Vegas for 42 years; it is a One Ford Elite winner and a 13-time President’s Award winner, Ford’s highest honors for customer satisfaction and excellence.
