Friendly Ford’s Ed Olliges buys anniversary Mustang

The first buyer of the 50-year anniversary 2015 Ford Mustang at Friendly Ford is the chairman of the dealership at 660 N. Decatur Blvd.

In fact, Ed Olliges has sold Mustangs for years and the latest produced by Ford Motor Co. may be his favorite.

“This car is truly a fantastic vehicle,” said Olliges, whose 44-year-old dealership is among the oldest in Nevada. “When the Mustang hit the cover of Time Magazine 50 years ago, it instantly became the biggest new car introduction in the history of the automotive industry; and this one should be just as popular.”

An American icon, the Mustang has now become a world icon, Olliges said. With 1,964 Mustangs built to commemorate the Mustang’s birth a half century ago, availability is limited.

“This is the first time that a Ford Mustang is being sold on the world market,” Olliges said. “Ford Motor Co. invented the pony car segment, and the Mustang is its perennial best-seller for 50 years.”

Olliges was impressed with the car in his first week of ownership, driving the Wimbledon White model.

“I love the way it looks and the way it feels,” he said. “It’s fun to drive, and it’s simply a very unique vehicle.”

Olliges expects that the 2015 Mustang will rival the popularity of the first model.

“The type of buyers for this car will vary,” he said. “We will have everything from young people to professionals who want a unique, personal and fun-to-drive vehicle. We have already had several people order the 2015 Mustang. One of Friendly Ford’s goals is to become one of the largest Mustang dealers in the West.”

The 2015 Mustang is available with various engines, including: the Best in Class I-4 fuel efficiency 2.3L EcoBoost twin-scroll turbocharger optimized for quick acceleration response; 3.7L V6; the 3.7L V6 with an all-aluminum direct overhead cam with Ti-VCT that helps delivery low-end torque, peak power and increased efficiency; and the fastest-ever Mustang GT sporting 5.0L that includes new cylinder heads with revised high-flow ports helping air flow more freely for better high-RPM breathing than earlier models.

Each model comes with a six-speed manual or select shift automatic transmission.

Highway fuel mileage ratings range from 25 to 32 miles per gallon.
