Gimme something for free, Mr. Obama

The liberal media establishment is dancing around the bonfire tonight singing songs about Mitt Romney's latest "gaffe".

Hate to throw water on the fire, but what Romney did was tell the truth. And frankly, it was refreshing to hear. Because if someone doesn't begin to shout it from the rooftops, this country's great experiment in government may fall under the weight of it's own entitlements.

Here's Romney's so-called gaffe: At a fundraising dinner he said that the constituency for President Obama consists largely of "people who pay no income tax" and are "dependent upon government." You can read more about it here.

The truth is never a gaffe. This is admirable truth-telling. It is the one glaring flaw in our American experiment observed as early as Alex de Tocqueville. What happens when people discover they can vote themselves (by majority vote) all kinds of favors? They create politicians who will give them more, and more and more.

Right now the Democratic Party is the Party of free stuff. Republicans remain the Party of freedom.
