Government workers union backs Democrat in Northern Nevada congressional race

Chip Evans, the Democratic candidate in the 2nd Congressional District race in Northern Nevada, received the endorsement of the American Federation of Government Employees on Thursday.

Evans is mounting a long-shot bid against incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark Amodei, R-Nev., for the seat in a district that always has been held by a Republican since its creation in 1981.

Union National President J. David Cox Sr. said Evans will “fight to increase the minimum wage and defend working people’s voice on the job so safety and fair play never come second to profits.”

The union represents 670,000 government workers, many of them federal.
