Harry Reid’s brain on Koch

Somebody ought to come up with a variation of that old public service ad that features two identical pictures of Harry Reid in one of his ugly, screwed-up facial poses.

You know the look. He looks like a cross between Gabby Hayes and one of those flying monkeys on “The Wizard of Oz.”

Under one picture it would read: “Here’s Harry Reid’s brain.”

Under the other it would read: “Here’s Harry Reid’s brain on Koch.”

The point is that Harry Reid doesn’t need the Koch brothers — Charles and David — to motivate his ill-tempered meanness. He pretty much wakes up every day with a stick in his hand looking for a dog to beat.

In the Koch brothers’ case, they have earned his ire by funding Americans for Prosperity, a group dumping millions of dollars on ads attacking vulnerable Democrats who supported Harry Reid and President Obama on Obamacare.

In what has become a weekly display of “Harry Reid’s Brain on Koch,” Reid has taken to the Senate floor to call the Koch brothers “un-American” and funding ads that are “all lies.”

Of course, they are not un-American. And their ads are not “all lies” anymore than George Soros is un-American and President Obama’s political ads were “all lies.”

So what is really going on here?

I’ll tell you what’s really going on here. Harry Reid is about to get knocked down a peg when, later this year, there is a better than 50/50 chance he will lose his Senate majority leader status.

And that agitates Harry Reid to no end. Power is Harry Reid’s “House of Cards.” If he loses the Senate in 2014, his power is diminished.

And if his power is diminished, it will take away from one of his big re-election pitches to Nevadans in 2016, namely: “I am too big to not be re-elected.”

It’s too early to say with certainty whether Democrats will lose the Senate this fall, IMO. But Reid isn’t the only one worried.

Consider what MSNBC’s “Hardball” anchor Chris Matthews said this morning:

“It’s going to be very hard to hold the Senate — I think the Senate goes. [I] think we heard from the Ghost of Christmas Future this week; they’re going to lose the Senate.”

And that, dear readers, puts Harry Reid’s brain on Koch.

P.S. — On a very related side note, take a look at the story this morning about Harry Reid taking campaign contributions — a lot of campaign contributions — from entities linked to companies suspected of violating the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. You can read the story here. How so very Koch-like. Ouch, baby, ouch.
