Hellmuth in hunt for WSOP bracelet No. 14
June 8, 2015 - 12:05 pm
Phil Hellmuth is one of 12 players remaining in the World Series of Poker’s $10,000 buy-in Razz Championship and will try for his record 14th bracelet Monday.
Hellmuth, the all-time WSOP bracelet leader known as the “Poker Brat,” will open with the third-largest chip stack when play resumes at 2 p.m. at the Rio Convention Center.
Hellmuth is typically associated with No-limit Hold ‘em, but the resident of Palo Alto, Calif., has a history of success in Razz. He won the $2,500 buy-in Seven-card Razz event in 2012 for his 12th bracelet and finished second to Ted Forrest in last year’s $1,500 buy-in Seven-card Razz tournament.
“First step’s first, I think we have 12 left,” Hellmuth told PokerNews.com. “There are probably some short stacks, so I have to make the final eight and then see what happens from there.”
The field for the Razz Championship is loaded with big-name professional poker players. Eight-time bracelet winner Erik Seidel of Henderson is in fourth place, while bracelet winners Shaun Deeb of Las Vegas, Mike Gorodinsky, Thomas Keller, Mike Leah, and Brandon Shack-Harris also remain.
Shack-Harris was the runner-up in this event last year.
England’s Adam Owen will have the chip lead when play begins.
The tournament drew 103 entries for a prize pool of $968,200. The winner will earn $271,105.
