Henderson election basics

With the 2013 city of Henderson elections under way, residents have the chance to vote on candidates running for mayor, City Council seat Ward 3 and Municipal Court judge Department 1.

The election is at-large voting, meaning residents, regardless of which ward they reside in, can vote on all candidates.

Early voting is scheduled to run from Saturday to March 29.

In the 2011 city elections, early voting was the preferred method used by residents, according to the city of Henderson. Of the 15,263 people who voted in the primary, 7,653 voted early, 2,092 mailed in their ballots and 5,518 voted the day of elections.

n Residents can vote from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the office of the city clerk in City Hall, 240 S. Water St.

n Residents can vote from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Galleria at Sunset mall, 1300 W. Sunset Road.

Neighborhood locations are set up from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on:

n Saturday at Albertsons, 190 N. Boulder Highway

n Sunday at Vons, 45 E. Horizon Ridge Parkway

n Monday and March 19 at the Desert Willow Community Center, 2020 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway

n March 20 at Vons, 2667 Windmill Parkway

n March 21 at Albertsons, 575 College Drive

n March 22 at the Solera Anthem Community Center, 2401 Somersworth Drive

n March 23 and 24 at Albertsons, 2650 Horizon Ridge Parkway

n March 25 at Albertsons, 2851 N. Green Valley Parkway

n March 26 at Albertsons, 201 S. Stephanie St.

n March 27 and 28 at the Anthem Center in Sun City Anthem, 2450 Hampton Road

n March 29 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 Racetrack Road

Residents also can request a mail-in ballot through the city clerk’s office. Requests must be sent in by March 26.

Primary elections are scheduled for April 2.

According to the Henderson city charter, if a candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, regardless of the number of contenders, he will automatically be elected without a general election.

If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the votes, the top two continue to the general election.

Early voting for the general election is scheduled to run from May 18 to 31. Locations for early voting sites have not been determined.

The general election is scheduled for June 4.
