FOR GREETER PROGRAM
The National Council on Aging recognized the city of Henderson’s Heritage Park Senior Facility greeter program through its National Institute of Senior Centers 2012 Programs.
The program earned an honorable mention in leadership, civic engagement and community development category.
Since April 2011, when the program started, it has logged more than 1,413 facility tours and more than 2,144 volunteer hours.

AVELLINO PARK OPENS IN HENDERSON
The city of Henderson and Ryland Homes recently unveiled the city’s newest park, Avellino Park, 1050 Chaparral Road.
The park is slated to be open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily and features a basketball court, barbecues, an exercise course, a playground and a walking course.

BARK IN THE PARK TURNS 10
Henderson celebrated its 10th annual Bark in the Park March 2 at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway.
The event featured vendor booths, contests, demonstrations from Henderson Police Department K-9 unit nd pet adoptions.
HENDERSON information technology EMPLOYEE RECOGNIZED FOR WORK
Laura Fucci, the chief information officer for the city of Henderson’s Department of Information Technology, was honored by e.Republic’s Government Technology magazine and the Center for Digital Government.
Fucci was named one of the “Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers of 2013.”
COUNCILWOMAN PLANS WARD 1 CONNECTION MEETING
Henderson City Councilwoman Gerri Schroder is scheduled to host a Ward 1 Neighborhood Connection meeting at 6 p.m. March 21 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 Racetrack Road.
Schroder is expected to share updates about the city and answer questions from residents. Representatives from city departments also are scheduled to attend.

st. patrick’s day pool party saturday
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, Henderson is scheduled to host a holiday pool party at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Whitney Ranch Indoor Pool, 1575 Galleria Drive.
The event costs $5 per person.

SEMINAR SLATED TO TEACH
ABOUT COIN COLLECTING
A seminar on coins is scheduled for 6 p.m. March 20 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Parkway.
The workshop is expected to explore historical facts about coins and what makes them valuable.

The city of Henderson has announced that the deadline for applications for entries to the Henderson Heritage Parade is March 21.
The parade is scheduled for April 6 in the Water Street District. Henderson is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

SUPPORT MEETING PLANNED
FOR LUPUS OF NEVADA
Lupus of Nevada is scheduled to host a monthly support meeting from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month at Superior Health Solutions, 1661 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway.
The next session is slated for Saturday.
Support meetings are designed to offer emotional and educational support for those with lupus. The meeting is free, but reservations are required.

E BUNNY COLLECTING EASTER BASKETS
FOR VALLEY CHILDREN
The E Bunny plans to begin delivering Easter baskets to agencies and shelters as early as Monday, as Easter is March 31. On March 29, E Bunny plans to “take it to the streets” with its annual Easter basket giveaway in some of the poorest neighborhoods in the Las Vegas Valley.
To help the effort, plan to purchase an Easter basket by March 21 and deliver it to an E Bunny drop-off site.
