Horizon Ridge REHABILITATION CENTER BREAKS GROUND ON FACILITY

The Horizon Ridge Rehabilitation Center held a groundbreaking ceremony June 26 at 2825 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway. The center is expected to feature 169 beds, a therapy center and a variety of activities.

It is slated to open in late 2013 and should create 250 full-time positions.

Agencies schedule meeting on downtown Henderson redevelopment

Representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency and Bay Area Economics are scheduled to host a public information session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

The meeting is expected to cover topics such as economic and fiscal health issues and tools and the city of Henderson's Redevelopment Agency's efforts to revitalize almost 509 acres of the eastern part of Henderson, encompassing the downtown area of Water Street District.

Liberty High School to host
basketball camp next week

Liberty High School, 3750 Liberty Heights Ave., is scheduled to host a basketball camp for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through July 20. Cost is $25 per day and $10 per extra work session.

Learn about astronomy during nighttime program at library

The Paseo Verde Library plans to host "Fun with the Night Sky," a short introduction to astronomy, from 6 to 8 p.m. July 17. The program includes information on how to obtain easy-to-use star charts available free on the Internet to locate and identify constellations and prominent stars. The event is free.

An advanced computer class is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. July 19 at the Malcolm Library, 2960 Sunridge Heights Parkway.

The class, which focuses on e mail, is for users who already have basic skills.

City is accepting entries
for trails Day photo contest

The city of Henderson is accepting entries for its annual Trails Day Photo Contest. Entries will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 S. Racetrack Road. There is no cost to participate, and the contest is open to amateur photographers of all ages.

The contest includes 10 categories and themes. Winning photographs will be showcased at the Southern Nevada National Trails Day Celebration on Oct. 6 at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway.

ARTISTS invited to submit hubcap art
for SUPERRUN Classic Car Show

Henderson is seeking artists to participate in the Hubcap Art Gallery at the SuperRun Classic Car Show, scheduled from Sept. 20-23 at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.

Artists are invited to transform hubcaps into masterpieces using mediums such as acrylic paints, photography, oil paints, fabric and welding. Hubcaps are expected to be displayed during SuperRun.

Any donated hubcaps are expected to be sold at a silent auction to benefit City Lights Youth Scholarship Fund.

Cost is $5 per hubcap. The deadline to enter is Aug. 15.
