How much vacation is too much?

This blog item yesterday in which I snarked about President Obama staying on perpetual vacation so that he can't do any more harm to the economy, produced an off-topic discussion among "the people" about whether Obama has taken too much vacation. Apparently, a lot of Obama devotees are very sensitive about the frequency, the timing and the symbolism of Obama's many vacations.

I can't do much about Obama paranoia. But I can give you the full and authoritative skinny on presidential vacations. In that regard, Obama (like his presidency in general) is nothing special. The most salient point in this report is that all presidents are always in contact with "the office" whether on vacation or not.

But I'll stick to my original thesis -- when it comes to the economy, President Obama ought to stay on perpetual vacation because his Rx for our economic woes (higher taxes, higher spending, more federal control) isn't working. In fact, the uncertainty of the Obama agenda holds back the economy. But, as always, I'll be interested in any commentary that takes the president's and the vice president's view that we are "on the right track" and this is the "Summer of recovery."

Las Vegas, I can tell you, can't take any more of Obama's "recovery".
