HUD grant to help investigate housing discrimination in Nevada

CARSON CITY — A Nevada organization has been awarded a $325,000 federal grant to fight housing discrimination.

Silver State Fair Housing Council will use the funding to continue an enforcement program that investigates housing discrimination. The council has offices in Reno and Las Vegas.

The grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development was announced Wednesday. It is part of $38.3 million awarded by the federal agency to 95 fair housing organizations and other nonprofit groups in 38 states.

Funds will also be used educate landlords, governments and the public about their rights and responsibilities under the Fair Housing Act.
