Las Vegas Art Museum makes the Times – for the wrong reason

The announced closure on Saturday of the promising Las Vegas Art Museum is noted in today’s edition of The New York Times. The Dave Itzkoff report reminds us that the LVAM’s executive director Libby Lumpkin resigned following announced cutbacks and potential layoffs. In reality, the museum has been one of those cultural endeavors that should work in a community the size of Southern Nevada, but in fact hasn’t been successful.
Are times so tough the community won’t support an art museum?
Bigger question is, did a broad section of the community ever support it in the first place?
