‘Last Vegas’ a hit with regular folks

Early reviews are mixed for “Last Vegas,” this Friday’s new movie in which classic actors enjoy senior moments in Vegas.

“As creaky as an arthritic hip.” — Variety’s Scott Foundas

“A royal flush of actors delivers a winning hand for this likable seriocomedy.” — Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy

“ ‘Last Vegas’ is only slightly better than a watchable bad movie.” — IndieWire.com’s Eric Kohn

RottenTomatoes.com listed five official reviews Monday. Three were pans, two were nicer.

The movie stars Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline and Mary Steenburgen in a plot about wrinkly tourists.

Regular people who saw advanced screenings posted nicer critiques at IMDB.com and RottenTomatoes.com, saying it’s “humorous and heartfelt” and “surprisingly funny.”

SORTIES

Ethan Hawke is coming to Vegas to make a film with “Gattaca” director Andrew Niccol. Hawke will play a pilot who kills people with drones.

SORRIES

Former Las Vegas Academy student Julianne Hough of “Dancing With the Stars” apologized on Twitter for her terrible Halloween costume. She painted on blackface to go as actress Uzo Aduba from “Orange is the New Black:”

“It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize,” Hough wrote.

SCRUBS

Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard was asked on SiriusXS radio what the future might hold for the band. Gossard said, “Hopefully not a residency in Vegas,” Spin magazine reports.

Funny, I have the same hope.

Question: Do you know what you spread Pearl Jam on?

Answer: Milquetoast.

GARTHY

Speaking of Vegas residencies, CBS-TV will air Garth Brooks’ “Live in Las Vegas”on Nov. 29 as a curtain call for his three-year Wynn run.

OLD FANS FOR SALE

And Cher, 67, told U.K. talk show host Graham Norton that it was hard for her to enjoy that $180 million she banked to play Caesars Palace for years, because she was “angry” at her fans for being “very, very old and sometimes they had walkers and oxygen masks.”

Sheesh.

STARRY NIGHT

Ringo Starr was asked whether he’ll ever do a Vegas residency.

“It’s been talked about, but nothing’s been finalized. We have a couple years before that happens,” he told a news conference in L.A.

Starr is 73. In a couple of years, he will be older. He plays the Palms Nov. 22-23.

KILLING FAKE PEOPLE

Monday, I got my hands on an early copy of “Battlefield 4,” which came out today. I haven’t played both the solo mission and the online multiplayer enough to give you a full review yet, but so far, “Yeeehaaawww!!!”

SIGHTINGS

Nicolas and Alice Cage lunched at 2 p.m. Friday in the main dining room at Social House in the Shops at Crystals. They were apparently chatty, happy, drinking wine and eating crispy pata and yellowtail jalapeno. A friendly reader requests I list celeb lunch prices when possible, a great idea. I’m not sure about the Cages’ meal (probably free), but Social House has a $20 prix fixe lunch, and wines range from $8 to $395.

A-Rod watched Saturday’s World Series game with model-girlfriend Torrie Wilson at Aria’s Deuce Lounge, then they partied at 1 Oak nightclub in the Mirage.

Rapper T.I. gambled in the Deuce on Saturday.

And Floyd Mayweather dined late Sunday at Bellagio’s Fix.
