Man accused of accidentally killing son by leaving him in car returns home

GREENBELT, Md. — A Maryland father accused of accidentally causing his 17-month-old son’s death by leaving him in a car for hours is returning to his home.

John Junek is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the September death of his son. The toddler was found dead in Junek’s car at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. Junek told investigators he forgot to drop the boy off at daycare.

After his arrest, Junek was released to live at his parents’ home because one of his lawyers said it would be difficult for him and his wife to return home.

On Wednesday, his lawyers asked a judge to let him live at his home and the judge agreed. Both Junek and his parents have homes on the same property in Leonardtown.
