Man charged with shoplifting after stuffing steaks into colostomy bag
Roebuck, S.C. — A 56-year-old Woodruff, South Carolina, man was arrested after Spartanburg County deputies learned he stole steaks from a supermarket by concealing the meat in his colostomy bag, according to investigative reports.
Deputies were called to the Food Lion in Roebuck just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Employees informed deputies that a man had stolen five packages of steaks, valued at $75, by stuffing the steaks into a canvas bag and then leaving the store without paying.
The employees saw the man get into a green Nissan sedan and drive off. They noted the license plate number, which deputies used to track down David Earl Hoyt.
Deputies reported that Hoyt initially denied shoplifting but then admitted to stealing the stakes.
A woman at the house told investigators that Hoyt "had taken meat from Food Lion by putting it in his colostomy bag," reports state.
Hoyt was taken into custody and charged with one count of shoplifting.
He was being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center on a $2,130 bond.
