Man wakes from coma convinced he’s Matthew McConaughey

A British man who was injured during a car crash awoke from a coma speaking fluent French and thinking he was Matthew McConaughey.

Rory Curtis, 25, was in a coma for six days in Aug. 2012 before he awoke and started speaking fluent French to hospital staff. He hadn’t taken French classes since high school. He also thought he was McConaughey and said he couldn’t wait to get back to filming.

“When I went to the toilet I went to look in the mirror and I was shocked because I didn’t look like him, I didn’t know what I was looking at,” Curtis told the Telegraph. “Then slowly over time it eventually clicked and I thought, ‘he is an actor, what am I on about?’”

Curtis credits his recovery to an experimental drug offered to him by Britain’s National Institute for Health Research Surgical Reconstruction and Microbiology Research Centre. He was only the second person in Britain to have the treatment.
