Merry Christmas … and please ‘forgive the expression’

Have we come to the point in American discourse that when using the words "Christmas party" we have to preface it with "forgive the expression?"

NPR's Nina Totenberg does just that in this clip. You tell me, have liberals gone too far? Of course, please forgive the expression "liberals". I should have said "intellectual masters".
