MORNING LINE: M*A*S*H session ends

A couple thoughts now that the special session of the Legislature is over.

Gov. Gibbons  There’s no question the winners of record — with asterisks attached — are  Gov. Jim “Hard Line Jimmy” Gibbons and the Democrats’ new leadership in the Senate and Assembly.

Gibbons never promises much and gets pilloried for his lack of a big plan for care-worn Nevada’s future. But he’s also managed to keep his lips from moving on his pledge not to raise taxes. Bully for him.

Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford and Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley saved the angry rhetoric and visionary ideas — you still have those, don’t you? — for February when the Legislature returns. That was smart and mature.

Smart and mature? Let’s hope it’s not the last time we see those words in a sentence when describing our legislative leaders.
