Mountain Falls features new homes, golf course

Mountain Falls master-planned community in Pahrump offers brand-new homes developed by William Lyon Homes, with golf course living and amenities, surrounded by the Spring Mountains 45 miles west of Las Vegas.

"People are moving to Mountain Falls for lifestyle reasons and the home design," said Linda Kemper, marketing executive of William Lyon Homes.

"They are looking for the spirit of neighborhood that is missing in metropolitan areas and for peace and quiet, less congestion, and clearer skies. Many of our recent Mountain Falls buyers want to move away from the metropolis and to enjoy the lifestyle of Mountain Falls and the small-town atmosphere of Pahrump."

Jerry and Bobbi O'Neill, longtime residents of Toluca Lake, Calif., recently bought a home in Mountain Falls.

"We were looking on the Internet for a place where we can retire, looking at options on the entire West Coast. I was looking for a smaller town with a relaxed environment and a golf course community. I was tired of living in a big city," Jerry O'Neill said.

"We learned about Mountain Falls when I read a story about a San Fernando Valley resident buying a home and retiring to Mountain Falls. After reading the story, I visited the website, saw the floor plans, the prices, and all of the beautiful pictures. We then researched the builder, William Lyon Homes, and were impressed. We decided to come and check it out for ourselves."

During their visit, the O'Neills toured the model homes and picked a single-story home that was located on a home site with views of nearby mountains.

"I don't feel like I am living in the desert. Mountain Falls is really like a hidden oasis with the greens of the golf course, the trees and the views of the mountains," he said.

Homeowners Larry and Betty Smith toured Tuscan-style designs, which range from 1,429 to 2,897 square feet and are priced from the high-$100,000s. The Smiths, who also own a home in a golf course community in Star Valley Ranch, Wyo., said they were impressed by the nearby 18-hole Mountain Falls Golf Club, a public, par-72 course with a driving range, putting and chipping greens and pro shop.

"We love Mountain Falls for three reasons. First, I love my home. I like the spaciousness of it. It is light and airy. It has quality to it," said Betty Smith describing their single-story home with three bedrooms, a den, two baths and mountain views. "Second, we love the golfing and the course is just beautiful. Golfing is my husband's No. 1 passion.

"Third, we like the people. We have just wonderful neighbors. The people next door are from Pennsylvania, the neighbor across the street is from Indiana, the neighbor catty-corner is from the East Coast. It seems like many of the people on our street are retired, and their families do not live close to them. We have a lot in common. I like the community atmosphere, the sharing, the community support. Everybody looks after everybody. Those are the three main reasons why we are here."

All residents have access to the Mountain Falls residents' facility which features a fitness center with club-quality exercise equipment and classes, an outdoor aquatic center with a family-style pool, interactive splash pad, lap pool and spa, multipurpose room and residents' lounge with card tables, pool tables and a big-screen television.

Nearby is the Mountain Falls Grill Room that overlooks the Mountain Falls Golf Club and is open to the public for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The William Lyon Homes' sales office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except Monday, when it opens at noon.

To visit from Las Vegas, travel about 45 miles west on Highway 160 (Blue Diamond Road) past Interstate 15. Before reaching Pahrump, turn left on Manse Road. Proceed to Hafen Ranch Road, turn right and follow the signs. For information, visit mountainfalls.com.
