Mountain’s Edge to host event

Mountain's Edge master-planned community will hold its fourth annual Family, Fur and Fun Festival Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Presented by the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the free event focuses on humane education and activities for the family. It will take place at the southwestern Las Vegas community's Exploration Park, located at 9275 S. Buffalo Drive.

Well-behaved pets are welcome to attend, but should be leashed and comfortable with crowds.

"The Family, Fur and Fun Festival is an inspiring celebration of animal appreciation, rescue and adoption," said Doug Duke, NSPCA executive director. "It challenges people of all ages to take compassionate steps in their own lives to improve the conditions for animals throughout our community. We are honored to have the festival at Mountain's Edge Exploration Park this year. It broadens our ability to reach out to individuals about responsible pet ownership and respect and kindness for all animals and to do it in such a fun way."

The festival features educational, interactive and service booths covering a $5 micro chipping clinic, pet tag creation, proper dog training techniques and pet care, Canine Good Citizen training, animal massage, spay and neutering and pets as part of the family information and children's hands-on pet experiences.

NSPCA will provide pet adoptions. Other activities include raffle prizes, helping NSPCA name new animals coming into the sanctuary, earning an animal hero badge, pet photo and coloring contests and special pricing for pet portraits with proceeds for NSPCA.

Festival proceeds support low-cost spay, neuter and vaccination services, shelter and adoption of animals and educational programs. For information, visit familyfurandfun.com.

Various Mountain's Edge homebuilders also will have booths, some with their own activities and giveaways.

Mountain's Edge builders include: Amstar Homes, Beazer Homes, Camden Homes, Discovery Homes, Harmony Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes, StoryBook Homes, and Woodside Homes. Ryland Homes' Community Partnership Program is offering an additional 1 percent off the base price of a new Ryland home for qualifying teachers, firefighters, police officers, nurses, and retired and active duty military personnel. The incentive applies to all purchase agreements signed prior to Dec. 31. Ryland Homes also is inviting military personnel to attend its free Why Buy Now seminar Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at Ryland Homes Corporate Offices, 8925 West Russell Road, Suite 200. To register, call 306-6181 or e-mail RYLLasVegas@ryland.com.

Ryland Homes has two gated one- and two-story neighborhoods including Augusta, with plans ranging from 2,508 to 4,262 square feet, priced from the $230,000s and Ellingwood, with plans ranging 1,756 to 2,975 square feet, priced from the $190,000s.

With close proximity to the Red Rock National Conservation Area, major employment and Las Vegas Strip offerings, Mountain's Edge offers single and multi-family subdivisions, parks, trails, open spaces, public facilities and schools. A series of paseos wind through the community, connecting residents and their neighborhoods to recreation areas, including Exploration Park, an 80-acre park with volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, picnic areas and an amphitheatre. Mountain's Edge ranks in the country's top five best-selling master-planned communities for the past five years by RCLCO, a leading independent real estate advisory firm.
