MOVIES: Free lunchtime concert anticipates ‘Soloist’ arrival
April 16, 2009 - 12:23 pm
The sound of music plays a major role in "The Soloist," which details the fact-based friendship between a newspaper columnist (Robert Downey Jr.) and a homeless musician (Jamie Foxx) he meets and befriends on the streets of Los Angeles.
And, in anticipation of "The Soloist's" arrival in theaters Friday, the sound of music will fill the air in downtown Las Vegas at noon Monday, when the Nevada School of the Arts' cello choir, led by Mert Sermert, will present a free concert at Centennial Plaza, 401 S. Fourth St.
DreamWorks Pictures (the studio behind "The Soloist") is sponsoring the free concert, along with the Las Vegas Office of Cultural Affairs and the Nevada School of the Arts, one of the resident organizations at downtown's historic Fifth Street School.
Local artist Mark Mellon also will participate in the event.
