MOVIES: Galaxy Cannery enters local big-screen competition
September 21, 2010 - 6:07 pm
Everybody wants to get into the act, from traditional IMAX at Brenden's Palms multiplex to Regal's digital IMAX outposts to Cinemark's XD digital system at the South Point.
Now, Galaxy's Cannery in North Las Vegas has joined the big-screen digital fray with DFX. Short for Digital Fusion Experience, the Cannery's newly remodeled DFX Auditorium features a screen more than three stories tall, 2,000 watts of sound, the latest in projection technology and reclining leather seats.
After a recent introductory workout at a midnight showing of the latest "Resident Evil" sequel, the system takes off this weekend with the 3-D animated fantasy "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole."
The new DFX system will be turning up at locations throughout the Galaxy circuit. The Cannery, Southern Nevada's first digital theater, is the first Galaxy location to add a DFX auditorium.
