MOVIES: Special screenings — calling all ‘Rent’heads!

The "Seasons of Love" ended on Broadway Sept. 7, when "Rent" ended its 12-year run — all 6,307,200 minutes. (That's "Seasons of Love's" 525,600 minutes — multiplied by 12.)
But who's counting? The Tony-winning musical returns for a four-night run at local multiplexes as Sony Pictures' Hot Ticket program presents "Rent: Filmed Live on Broadway" for those who never caught the show on the Great White Way.
The "Rent" screenings will be presented Sept. 24-25 and Sept. 27-28 at Regal's Colonnade, Fiesta and Red Rock multiplexes, Century's Santa Fe and South Point locations and Rave's Town Square.
Those are all digital theaters — which makes sense, considering this "cinecast" boasts high-definition video and digital audio.
In addition to seeing the show from orchestra seats at New York's Nederlander Theatre, audiences attending the Hot Ticket presentation will feature cameras onstage and in the wings, capturing the emotions of the cast on closing night.
Two of the technical experts contributing to the closing-night "cinecast" have Las Vegas connections: award-winning "Leaving Las Vegas" cinematographer Declan Quinn and Grammy-winning music producer Giles Martin, who collaborated with his father, legendary Beatles producer George Martin, on Cirque du Soleil's "Love" at The Mirage.
Michael Grief, "Rent's" original director, returned to oversee the final production.
