MOVIES: ‘Star Trek’ miniatures beam down at Rave Town Square 18

Rave Motion Pictures' Town Square 18 multiplex has its own little piece of the Final Frontier — at least until early May, when the new "Star Trek" movie beams down to theaters everywhere.
That's because miniatures featured in the movie are on display in the Rave multiplex lobby. It's the only such display in the United States, according to Jeremy Devine, Rave's marketing vice president.
Why Las Vegas? In part, it's because of ShoWest 2009, the annual movie industry trade show and convention, which concluded April 2 at Paris Las Vegas and Bally's.
For one thing, "Paramount likes us," Devine says of "Star Trek's" home studio.
Besides, because it's "difficult to move them," Devine points out, it was easier for Paramount Pictures to move the miniatures a few exits south on I-15 after ShoWest ended than to transport them to another city. (Alas, nobody's yet figured out how to duplicate "Star Trek's" transporter technology in the nonreel world ...)
