National Night Out Block Party returns to Providence community

Enjoy a fun and educational evening with local law enforcement agencies at the free, third annual National Night Out Block Party from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5 at Knickerbocker Park in the Providence master-planned community. The park is at 10695 Dorrell Lane, north of the 215 Beltway and Hualapai Way exit.

Created to raise crime prevention awareness, strengthen neighborhood spirit and unity, and foster community and law enforcement partnerships, the block party will feature exhibits, information and demonstrations from area emergency personnel, plus emergency vehicles to see, touch and explore.

Participants include the Metropolitan Police Department’s Northwest Area Command, Traffic Bureau and Air Support; Las Vegas Fire and Rescue; Nevada Public Safety Department; and Zero Fatalities.

The Providence Master Homeowners Association will share information about the Prevent Any Road Tragedy Campaign), a local traffic safety effort aimed at reducing the number of fatalities and injuries on community roadways and thoroughfares.

The event features many children’s activities, such as a giant obstacle course and slide, video games from Game Truck of Las Vegas, and park amenities. Amazing Clowns will provide a 1950s fire engine, and the homeowners association will oversee a large-scale version of the classic “Red Light–Green Light” game. P.D., the Providence dog mascot, will be on hand to greet everyone.

Knickerbocker Park includes a softball field and multiuse event field for soccer and volleyball. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The park has play areas for 2- to 5-year-olds and 5- to 12-year-olds, a swing set, a dog park with small and large dog areas, splash pad, jogging path with exercise stations, and picnic areas.

Target is providing free Popsicles and water, and other treats will be available for sale from vendors.

Through the National Association of Town Watch, the National Night Out events involve 37.8 million people and 16,124 U.S. communities, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.

The National Night Out Block Party at Providence is one of the few such events open to the public in northwest Las Vegas. For information, call the homeowners association at 702-216-2020.

Before the event, attendees are invited to tour the 1,200-acre master plan and its variety of neighborhoods built by its nationally recognized homebuilder partners.

They include: KB Home, Lennar, Pardee, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes, Summit Homes and Woodside Homes.
