Desert Newcomers Club Inc., a recreational social club for women who have lived in the Las Vegas-Henderson-Boulder City area for three years or less, has scheduled a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lucille’s Smokehouse BBQ at The District at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson. Lunch is $22 for guests. The meal will be served family-style.

CITY CELEBRATES BIRD DAY

The city of Henderson plans to celebrate International Migratory Bird Day from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 350 E. Galleria Drive.

The event includes workshops on birding basics and is free for all ages.

the Village at Lake Las vegas plans easter egg hunts, lake cruises

The Village at Lake Las Vegas, 15 Costa Di Lago, is planning an Easter egg hunt every hour from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The Easter bunny is scheduled to make special appearances from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and face painting also will be available.

Participation in the Easter egg hunt is $5 per child. Proceeds will benefit the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada.

Lake Las Vegas Marina also is offering 45-minute cruises at noon and 1 p.m. Sunday. Cruises are $15 per person. For cruise reservations and more information, call 856-0078.

U.S. Rep. Heck to speak at southern hills republican women meeting

U.S. Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., is scheduled to address the Southern Hills Republican Women at noon April 26 at Buckman’s at the Revere Golf Club, 2600 Hampton Drive, Sun City Anthem.

Before going to Washington, Heck had been a businessman, emergency room physician, state senator and lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserves.

Guests can arrive by 11 a.m. to socialize and buy raffle tickets. The meeting is set to follow at 11:30 a.m.

WATER SAFETY DAY
HELPS PARENTS BE MINDFUL

With May National Water Safety Month, the city of Henderson’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to host a water safety day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 7 at Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road.

The event teaches parents how to their protect children in and around water.

GALLERIA AT SUNSET mall
RECEIVES THREE AWARDS

The Galleria at Sunset mall was honored with three U.S. MAXI awards at the International Council of Shopping Centers’ annual MAXI Awards ceremony.

The honors included one gold and two silver awards and recognized the mall’s efforts in marketing, community outreach, sales promotions and visual merchandising programs.

FREE SHOTS FOR CHILDREN

The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition, along with the Consulate of Mexico and Nevada State Health Division, are sponsoring immunization clinics from Monday through April 30.

The health fair features no-cost immunizations for children 6 weeks to 6 years old, along with dental flouride and varnish, hearing and vision screening, lead testing, face painting and other activities for young children.

People can receive immunizations from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Consulate of Mexico, S. Sixth St.; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26 at St. Rose Dominican De Lima, 102 E. Lake Mead Parkway, and Family to Family Connection, 31 Church St.; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 at St. Rose Dominican Hospitals San Martin Campus, 8280 W. Warm Springs Road; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28 at Sunrise Children’s Foundation, 1000 E. Sahara Ave.; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 29 at Desert View Hospital, 360 S. Lola Lane; 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Walmart Neighborhood Market Store, 6151 W. Lake Mead Blvd.; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 650 N. Nellis Blvd.

Shots are administered on a first-come first-served basis.
