Obama’s politically correct CIA

President-elect Obama's defense for selecting Inspector Closeau look-a-like Leon Panetta to head the CIA makes no sense.

The New York Times says: "Mr. Obama vigorously defends his selection on Tuesday, saying Mr. Panetta was 'fully versed in international affairs, crisis management and had to evaluate intelligence consistently on a day-to-day basis' during his two and a half years as chief of staff to President Clinton."

So, let me get this straight: Because he once had to read CIA reports, he's "qualified" to run the CIA?

That's an interesting leap in logic.

Mr. Panetta also rides in airplanes; is he also "qualified" to fly them? Or, perhaps because Mr. Panetta once saw a 007 movie he's also "qualified" to do a little field spy work in a pinch?

It's a weak defense. Obama should have just said the truth: He wants a political operative loyal to his worldview to head the CIA. In that -- and only in that -- is Panetta "qualified".

This could be a dangerous appointment for an America that remains subject to domestic terrorism. Panetta's in place not to better defend Americans, but to make the CIA politically correct for liberal democrats.

I'm feeling less safe already.
