OJ goes to trial in Las Vegas; conviction is a house bet

The Review-Journal reports tonight that "A jury of three men and nine women has been selected to hear the trial of O.J. Simpson on armed robbery and kidnapping charges. No black jurors were selected to sit on the jury, although two of the six alternate jurors are black. The panel was finalized shortly before 8 p.m."

My sources at the courthouse tell me to look for a relatively simple trial, a probable conviction, and a sentence of 12 to 18 months. Judge Jackie Glass, an old news colleague in our much younger years, may not be the sharpest knife in Clark County's judicial drawer, but she's no Lance Ito. That's not to say Jackie doesn't have an ego. All judges do. And when this case is over, she'll be the buzz at fund-raisers and cocktail parties for some time to come. But my guess is that Judge Glass is grounded enough, thanks to her journalism background, not to let this case get too far afield.
