ON THE BOULEVARD: An appointment, and a disappointment
January 4, 2012 - 9:43 am
CITY HALL APPOINTMENT: At City Hall, longtime federal probation officer Felipe Ortiz has been chosen as a community liaison and special assistant to Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Coffin. Ortiz, who is bilingual, will assist Coffin with citizen outreach in Ward 3. The downtown-area ward has seen a dramatic increase in Latino residents.
"It is with great happiness for Felipe A Ortiz and sadness for the Probation Office that I announce Felipe will retire on January 15, 2012," Chief U.S. Probation Officer, District of Nevada, Chris Hansen said.
Ortiz over the years gined the respect of his peers as well as members of the Federal Public Defender's Office.
COLD REVIEW: Oscar’s steakhouse inside the Plaza downtown has generated substantial buzz from the media after its recent opening. With its "Beef, Booze & Broads" theme and great view from 1 Main Street, it has the potential to be a winner.
But I have received several complaints about the cold food and slow service since a column on the topic appeared earlier this week.
Reader Danny Guedry says, "Your review of Oscars did not seen positive or negative, but our dining experience on 01/01/12, this is the worst dining in Las Vegas. The food tasted good, but would have been much better if it was hot. Service seemed as if it was their first day on the job and did not mind that our food was served cold. We will not return."
