Pardee Homes supports students with scholarships

Pardee Homes awarded scholarships to two Clark High School seniors as part of the Pardee Homes' Community Building Scholarship Program, according to Dan Hale, vice president of community development for Pardee Homes.

Created in conjunction with the builder's 50th anniversary in Southern Nevada in 2002, the Pardee Community Building Scholarship supports seniors who demonstrate an interest in home building and community development and plan to attend an accredited college or university in Nevada.

"Whether it's awarding scholarships to local students or building a community park, Pardee Homes has strong ties to the communities in which we build homes," Hale said. "That includes Southern Nevada, where we have been building homes and communities for nearly 60 years."

Since Pardee Homes began its scholarship with the Public Education Foundation, the company has awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships to more than 80 Clark County students.

This year's scholars will receive $1,500 for each of four years that they continue to qualify for the funds. Recipients include Izack Tenorio and Elizabeth Cheng, both of Clark High School.

Tenorio plans to attend UNLV and pursue a degree in finance. With a family background in the construction industry, Tenorio said his father dreams of someday owning a construction company with him.

Cheng will head north to the UNR where she is planning to pursue a degree in business.

Working with the Public Education Foundation, students were invited to submit a typed essay related to development in Las Vegas. Each student also had to demonstrate a strong record of academic achievement as well as involvement in extracurricular community and student activities.

"Pardee builds homes, parks and communities, while schools help build good citizens who will allow these communities to flourish for many years," Hale said. "This philosophy is at the heart of Pardee's continuing support of education in Southern Nevada."

Pardee is one of Southern Nevada's longest-established homebuilder, having built homes for more than 40,000 families in the Las Vegas Valley since 1952. During that time, Pardee has been recognized as a strong supporter of education and community enhancement with donations of land and equipment for schools and parks.

In Southern Nevada, the builder offers green homes through its LivingSmart program at eight valley neighborhoods, including Rosetta and Serrano in Mountains Edge, Trail Ridge off of Durango and Blue Diamond/State Route 160, Ashwood in Nevada Trails, Montclaire in Henderson, Riverstone in North Las Vegas, Solamar in the northwestern valley and the newly opened Solstice in Aliante.

Pardee Homes was ranked highest in customer satisfaction and quality among new-home builders in Las Vegas, according to J.D. Power and Associates 2009 new-home builder customer satisfaction and new-home quality studies.

Pardee sales office hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. For additional information, visit pardeehomes.com.
